Pakistani passport holders need a visa for Albania, and applications receive careful scrutiny — which makes a complete, correctly legalised document file essential. This guide explains the Type D visa, work permit sponsorship and the Pakistan-specific paperwork.
Entry rules for Pakistani passport holders
Let us be direct, because the stakes are high: there is no visa-free shortcut for Pakistani passports. Anyone selling you a "guaranteed visa", a "work permit without a job", or a "special package" is selling you a fantasy — this is the single most common trap Pakistani applicants report. The only legitimate exemptions are for holders of a valid, used multiple-entry Schengen, US or UK visa or residence permit. Everyone else goes through the Albanian e-visa portal, and Pakistani files receive careful scrutiny. That is not a reason to give up — it is a reason to prepare a file that is impossible to fault.
The Type D visa application
For work or long stays you need the Type D visa (see the Type D guide). Three habits separate approved applications from refused ones:
- Consistency. Account records, salary evidence, the inviter's letter and prior trips must all narrate a single credible account. Sudden large deposits just before applying are a classic refusal trigger.
- Lead time. Apply 60+ days ahead. Applicants across South Asia report files lingering "in verification" past the departure date; purchase tickets only once approval arrives.
- Paper trail. If refused, appeal in writing and keep receipts — applicants have reported being asked to pay the visa fee a second time after an appeal was accepted. If reapplying, a realistic gap is around three months, with genuinely new documentation, not the same file resubmitted.
Work permits and employer sponsorship
The demand for workers is real — Albania's prime minister floated recruiting from "Bangladesh, Pakistan or India" back in 2021 (Balkan Insight), and construction, textile manufacturing and agriculture all report labour shortages. The permit is employer-driven: the Albanian company files the Unique Permit, you collect the Type D visa, then the residence card. See the work permit guide.
Two truths that protect your savings. First, Albanian law makes recruitment costs the employer's obligation; the €1,200–2,000 "fees" some agents charge workers are unlawful (documented by BIRN and the US State Department's TIP Report 2025). Second, the popular plan — "Albania first, then move to Europe" — does not work the way agents describe. Albania is not in the EU or Schengen; an Albanian work permit gives you zero preferential access to EU work visas, and a season of manual labour in Tirana strengthens no application elsewhere. If Europe is the goal, apply to Europe directly. Come to Albania for a real Albanian job, on a real contract you have read before paying anyone anything.
Documents from Pakistan
Pakistan is not a party to the Hague Apostille Convention — this changes your paperwork chain. Documents follow attestation instead:
- Police Character Certificate from your district police or the relevant authority — issued within six months of the application (mandatory for everyone since Law 43/2025).
- Attestation by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Islamabad, then legalisation by the Albanian mission competent for Pakistan — check ambasadat.gov.al for the currently accredited embassy before couriering anything.
- Degrees and diplomas: HEC attestation first, then the same MOFA chain.
- Certified renderings into Albanian once the consular chain is complete.
When to hire a professional: if your employer or invitation letter is questioned, after any refusal, or if the legalisation chain stalls — a licensed Albanian immigration lawyer costs far less than a second failed attempt. And verify any "agent" against one simple test: legitimate help charges for paperwork, never for the job itself.
